American Standard SEET Lab Trip
Only The Strong Survive
Visualize a scorching high noon in the Sahara Desert, and then
picture a bitter Buffalo, NY morning in January. Now imagine these two
extremes occurring back-to-back, within days of each other and
you’ll have an idea of the conditions that American Standard
Duration Compressors are put through.
Last week 12 customers, and VP employees braved the elements of American Standards SEET (System Extreme Environment Test) Lab in Texas. At this 27-acre facility they experienced first hand the rigors that AS Heat Pumps are put through during 2,688 hours of continuous extreme testing.
Trudging through drifts of snow they witnessed a compressor operating at minimum load heating in the numbing 0° temperatures. With minimum refrigerant flow motors often seize because there’s not enough oil to lube the bearings. The Duration compressor, however, had the velocity necessary to handle the situation – pulling oil back through the lines and into the compressor to lubricate all bearing surfaces.
In need of a thaw, our intrepid group soon found themselves in a blistering 125° room. With the compressor set at maximum load #1, it cooled an adjoining room to 80° without shutting down despite the stress of high load conditions.
