With higher and higher energy costs, the push to improve efficiency is
here to stay and will only get stronger. To improve efficiency the
hydraulic passages through boilers have gotten smaller and smaller
allowing for more surface area and better heat transfer between the heat
source and the hydraulic fluid. Smaller passages have caused a shift
from "low-flow resistance" boilers to new "high-flow resistance"
boilers. With the introduction of high-flow resistance boilers
primary/secondary piping is no longer just a nice way to provide thermal
shock protection but a design requirement to handle the "high-flow
resistance" (head loss) in the new boilers.
The new "tighter"
boilers are also more susceptible to air and sediment making their
elimination even more important to hydronic system design. Up until now
primary/secondary piping has been accomplish through the use of closely
spaced tee's, air elimination with an air scoop and dirt elimination if
done a y-strainer and with proper engineering has been successful most
of the time. Now with HYDRAULIC SEPARATOR and HYDRAULIC SEPARATOR
MANIFOLDS the design, piping and risk have been simplified and reduced.
The
use of Hydraulic Separators allows for a clean modern design with less
components and complexity in the field and therefore less potential
problems.
VP Supply Corp is
now stocking Hydraulic Separators in 1, 1-1/4, 1-1/2 and 2 inch with
either sweat or NPT union connections and can supply Hydraulic
Separators up to 12 inch and beyond for heating and chiller systems. VP
Supply Corp is also stocking 3 sizes of Hydraulic Separator Manifold
(Hydrolink 2+1, 2+2 and 3+1) that perform hydraulic separation and
simplify secondary piping.
